Features

01
Pure Rust microkernel: no unsafe code (no buffer overflows)
02
Runs entirely in RAM: never writes a byte to disk
03
Encrypted onion mesh networking: private & censorship-resistant by default
04
Built-in cold wallet + zkAuth: Web3-ready, identity-less login out of the box

NONOS brings a host of innovative features. Here are four of its standout characteristics, each of which is detailed further in its own mini-page:

Stateless, Leave-No-Trace Computing:

NONOS runs entirely in RAM and by default does not write data to disk. This means it leaves no footprint on the host machine. Every session is ephemeral, shut down and all your activity vanishes.

This feature protects privacy (no logs or cache remain) and immunizes against persistent malware (nothing can embed itself on a drive). You get Tails-like amnesia combined with a more modern, user-friendly OS design.

Zero-Trust, Secure Architecture:

From the ground up, NONOS is built on zero-trust principles. It uses a memory-safe Rust microkernel and isolates all processes. Apps come in the form of signed “capsules” with predefined permissions, so untrusted code simply won’t run or cause harm. The OS continuously verifies the integrity of the system and apps.

There are no open backdoors or default passwords, every component must prove itself. This drastically reduces attack vectors; even if one part of the system is compromised, it can’t contaminate the rest. It’s a fortress at the OS level.

Web3-Ready & Privacy Tools:

NONOS is ready for the next generation of the internet. It includes an integrated hardware-grade crypto wallet for managing digital currencies securely (with keys stored offline when the OS isn’t running).

It also features zkAuth, a zero-knowledge authentication system allowing you to log in to services or prove credentials without revealing your identity.

Additionally, NONOS devices can connect via an encrypted peer-to-peer mesh network, meaning your communications aren’t reliant on big centralized servers and are resistant to censorship or surveillance.

Whether you’re into blockchain, decentralized apps, or just value privacy, NONOS has the tools built-in.

Open Source & Community-Driven:

The NONOS platform is completely open source, inviting audit and collaboration from developers around the world. This transparency means anyone can verify the code’s security and contribute improvements.

NONOS is not controlled by any single corporation, it’s a community effort aimed at personal freedom in computing.

There’s even a community economy aspect, with plans for a native token (SNOX) to reward users who contribute resources or improvements, aligning everyone’s incentives. In short, NONOS’s features will continue to evolve with its user community.

It’s extensible (new capsules and services can be added) and adaptable, ensuring that as technology and user needs grow, NONOS grows with them.

Each of these features is explored in more detail on its own page. Together, they make NONOS a uniquely powerful OS, one that blends security, privacy, and cutting-edge tech in a way that’s easy to use.
