Why this environment matters

The platform for police body-camera docking stations uploads and manages evidence while charging officers' body-worn cameras. The operational risk is specific: malware or unauthorised access can delete, alter or leak sensitive footage before it reaches evidence systems. NØNOS could provide a smaller, memory-safe base for dividing that workflow into signed, least-privilege components and restoring it from a known state after each sensitive session or incident.

The security challenge

The threat model should assume that one component will eventually fail or be exploited. In this case, malware or unauthorised access can delete, alter or leak sensitive footage before it reaches evidence systems. Public-sector systems hold authoritative records and powers that affect identity, liberty, property, emergency response and national security. Endpoint compromise can therefore create consequences far beyond data loss. The aim is to prevent that single failure from automatically gaining the keys, devices, records and network paths of the whole platform.

How the capsule model could help

A candidate NØNOS architecture would separate device ingestion, integrity verification, encryption and evidence transfer, preventing local users from silently rewriting source media. The design would prioritise attestation for privileged actions and controlled removable media, supported by disposable trusted sessions and signed application allow-lists. Each capsule would carry a declared policy for files, networks, devices and secrets, and unknown or altered software would not receive the same authority as an approved component.

Separate address spaces and capability checks can limit cross-process reach. They cannot stop harmful use of legitimate permissions, prove AI decisions correct or substitute for domain-specific safety controls.

Deployment requirements

Government deployment would require formal accreditation, identity and records integration, accessibility testing, procurement assurance and controls appropriate to the information classification and public function.

Current public-beta limitations, hardware support and application availability must be assessed before any pilot. Neither this use case nor an industry source establishes NONOS certification or a current customer deployment.
