Understand the global device landscape and adjacent security spending. Keep published benchmarks, hypothetical device coverage and attainable revenue distinct.
Worldwide security spending forecast
March 3, 2026 forecast across security software, services and hardware; not endpoint OS revenue. IAM, endpoint and analytics jointly exceed half of software, not of all security.
Endpoint security industry revenue
Analyst endpoint-security category includes EPP/EDR; differs from broad cybersecurity spending and is not OS licensing. Competing analysts use different scope and totals.
Active connected IoT devices
Counts active nodes or gateways concentrating sensors; excludes PCs, phones, consumer tablets and one-way RFID/NFC. Multistandard connections counted once. 2025's 21.1B is a forecast, not observed 2025 stock.
Start with the right denominator.
| Device population | Published scale | Period | Scope & source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows monthly active devices | > 1.4B | 2025 | June 2025 vendor-reported monthly active Windows devices; excludes other operating systems and is not a count of people or annual sales. Microsoft ↗ |
| Active connected IoT devices | 18.5B | 2024 | Counts active nodes or gateways concentrating sensors; excludes PCs, phones, consumer tablets and one-way RFID/NFC. Multistandard connections counted once. 2025's 21.1B is a forecast, not observed 2025 stock. IoT Analytics ↗ |
| Industrial robots in operational use | 4.7M | 2024 | Industrial robots only; not all PLCs, machine tools, service robots or industrial edge computers. International Federation of Robotics ↗ |
| Installed cellular POS terminals | 184M | 2025 | Verified in primary search excerpt; current HTML body did not expose article text. Cellular POS is a subset of all POS and overlaps IoT. Do not equate payment terminals with retailer checkout PCs or count SoftPOS phones again. Berg Insight ↗ |
| ATMs installed at year end | 2.9M | 2025 | ATM terminal count; not bank branches, payment cards or annual ATM shipments. Published September 3, 2026. Datos Insights ↗ |
| Electric passenger car fleet | ≈ 58M | 2024 | BEV and plug-in hybrid passenger cars; excludes conventional vehicles and commercial fleets. Vehicle count is not ECU count. International Energy Agency ↗ |
| Public EV charging point stock | > 5M | 2024 | Public charging points only; not sites or private home charging. Multiple points may share one controller. International Energy Agency ↗ |
| Installed smart electricity, gas and water meters | 1.1B | 2023 | AMI smart meters with two-way communication; excludes automated meter reading systems. Older benchmark, already inside broad IoT. Different research definitions produce substantially different totals. IoT Analytics ↗ |

Select a preset, then adjust the slidersCustom scenario. Select a global population above or choose your own eligible-device count below.
Sources and how these estimates work
Windows: Microsoft, June 2025. Other presets: Omdia, January 2026 (2025 shipments) multiplied by an assumed six-year active lifetime. Annual shipments are not installed devices. This simplified model assumes a stable replacement flow and omits historical shipment variation and actual retirements.
These populations overlap and must not be added together. They include hardware that may not support NONOS. Compatibility, migration and procurement must be assessed before treating a population as eligible.
1M eligible devices × 1.0% adoption × $60 / year
10K licensed devices
Before churn, discounts, channel fees, support costs, tax or implementation expense.
Device eligibility, adoption and pricing are assumptions. Population presets provide published or explicitly modelled context. These are not announced NONOS prices, signed customers, a revenue forecast, valuation or token-price model. Eligibility and willingness to pay must be demonstrated.
