The security challenge

Industrial software turns files, sensor readings and network messages into machinery movement, production settings and safety-relevant decisions. Containment has to extend to devices and actuators. The attack surface may include remote support, software updates, removable media, third-party libraries, public input or misused operator credentials. The security design therefore needs containment as well as prevention.
How the capsule model could help
The proposed deployment pattern is to use signed configuration tools, isolated event viewing and tightly controlled write access to panels and notification logic. NØNOS would use signed production recipes and restricted actuator access as the trust foundation, then apply attested maintenance sessions and known-good recovery around higher-risk functions. Logs or proofs could record which approved capsule performed a privileged action without retaining unnecessary user data.
Deployment requirements
Production deployment must maintain independent emergency stops, safety PLCs, certified interlocks and validated motion or process limits. NØNOS could reduce software trust but should not collapse independent safety layers.
Current public-beta limitations, hardware support and application availability must be assessed before any pilot. Neither this use case nor an industry source establishes NONOS certification or a current customer deployment.
