Why this environment matters

Security for demand response aggregators starts with the system's role: it coordinates flexible loads such as HVAC, batteries and industrial equipment in response to grid or market signals. Energy and resource systems combine high-energy equipment, geographically distributed assets and operational technology that cannot be patched or restarted like an ordinary office computer. The attack surface may include remote support, software updates, removable media, third-party libraries, public input or misused operator credentials. The security design therefore needs containment as well as prevention.

How the capsule model could help

The proposed deployment pattern is to isolate customer enrolment, forecasting, bidding and device-control services with per-site and per-resource command permissions. NØNOS would use zone-specific capabilities and isolated remote maintenance as the trust foundation, then apply minimal persistent administration state and a verified boot chain around higher-risk functions. Logs or proofs could record which approved capsule performed a privileged action without retaining unnecessary user data.

Separate address spaces and capability checks can limit cross-process reach. They cannot stop harmful use of legitimate permissions, prove AI decisions correct or substitute for domain-specific safety controls.

Deployment requirements

Deployment would require site-specific engineering, segregation from independent protection systems, deterministic performance testing, change control and compliance review. NØNOS would not replace certified relays or safety systems by default.

Current public-beta limitations, hardware support and application availability must be assessed before any pilot. Neither this use case nor an industry source establishes NONOS certification or a current customer deployment.
