Why this environment matters

Modern airport baggage handling controllers depend on complex software, external data and remote administration. Transport systems often operate continuously, depend on specialised protocols and must preserve safe fallback behaviour while interacting with many operators, contractors and external data sources. The attack surface may include remote support, software updates, removable media, third-party libraries, public input or misused operator credentials. The security design therefore needs containment as well as prevention.

How the capsule model could help

The proposed deployment pattern is to isolate routing logic, scanner interfaces, maintenance tools and airline data exchanges so a fault cannot spread across the whole baggage network. NØNOS would use attested operator sessions and least-privilege device access as the trust foundation, then apply rapid recovery to a known state and signed operational software around higher-risk functions. Logs or proofs could record which approved capsule performed a privileged action without retaining unnecessary user data.

Separate address spaces and capability checks can limit cross-process reach. They cannot stop harmful use of legitimate permissions, prove AI decisions correct or substitute for domain-specific safety controls.

Deployment requirements

NØNOS would need to sit beside, or be engineered into, existing certified systems without weakening deterministic behaviour, fail-safe modes, independent protection or operator procedures.

Current public-beta limitations, hardware support and application availability must be assessed before any pilot. Neither this use case nor an industry source establishes NONOS certification or a current customer deployment.
